Amy West was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in the United States, a traveler, traveling around the world from the age of 17 for curiosity, study and work. Amy has been staying several years in Asia, in South America and has lived in Europe for 13 years. Fascinated by the light and by the intriguing characteristics of glass, now she dedicates her life to the search for shapes, colors and manipulation of glass both hot, lampwork, and cold, crystal cutting and engraving. For ten years she was a disciple in master Luigi Camozzo’s study and 4 years ago she opened her own laboratory and showroom in Murano, where she made and exhibited her glass works. AMY WEST DESIGN has developed over the last 6 years, through collections of jewels with glass beads, various series of cups and vases engraved or beaten and making the decorative engraving on glasses and traditional goblets in Murano glass. Amy West is an artisan, engraver, designer and creator of glass objects, who creates projects in collaboration with other artists and artisans. Jewelry Molding glass beads at the torch in a manner that projects color onto skìn, cutting through layers of glass to reveal the anima of an encased bead, catching and diffusing light through colors in the particular design of a bead or jewelry collection ... naming just a few ways Amy's research manifests itself in her creations and collections. lnspiration absorbed from the stories and lives of artists, various historical sources, and impressions from nature that seek expression, her jewelry is of the most intimate 1n forms of assertion and sensitivity, not limited to the feminine world . Battuto Battuto, literally meaning “beaten” in Italian, is a style of cold-working that uses diamond and stone wheels on a lathe, to texture and sculpt the surface of glass. This work can also include modifying the shapes of objects, adding refined detail and texture that cannot be achieved in hot glass. Engraving Engraving, incising and cutting into the surface of glass that has been tempered, has fascinated Amy from a young age, captivating her imagination in light transformed by refractions and reflections in a smooth stone cut. Through traditional shell engraving, Amy applies various textures and shading obtained with stone, diamond or copper wheels incisions, adding dimension, perspective and richness to her work. She draws heavily on historical design and organic influences creating the composition of her engraving subjects.
