Lampwork glass

"Glass is a difficult material to work with, especially when you stress it with processing that has never been done before."

Stefano Morasso was born in 1962 with glass in his veins and continues to be fascinated by its shapes and colors. His innovative and suggestive style is clearly visible in his works. Since he was very young he started working in a foundry where lamps were produced. He inevitably arrived at his father Mino’s workshop where he learned the processing of lampwork glass. From his father he learned and shared a lot in hours and hours of work made of attempts, disappointments, but also of success and satisfaction. Later he began to acquire other techniques and specialized in combining different tones and creating modern forms using ancient techniques. In 1992 he met his wife Nicoletta Viola, had a child, traveled the world, and then together the two returned to Italy in 2011 and began working on new projects including the opening of the atelier "Murano Glass Fine Art" at the former convent of SS. Cosma and Damiano on the island of Giudecca. In this evocative place it is possible to see Nicoletta making jewelry while Stefano is blowing goblets, making beads or teaching his son glassmaking techniques. This is how ancient arts and crafts are transmitted: each generation brings, modifies and renews a millenary workmanship such as that of Murano glass condensed into unique pieces to experience or wear.
