Al Baldacchino is a typical Venetian handicraft atelier, founded by Chiara Bellunato and daughters, located in San Francesco della Vigna in the Castello district, one of the most characteristic and least touristy areas of the lagoon city, animated mostly by native residents and small businesses commercial and handicrafts. The Artisan mainly deals with recovering ancient "conterie" pearls forgotten in the cellars, attics or excavations and re-proposing them to the public by creating jewels through a traditional threading technique handed down from her grandmother: the "paternosters". This technique has fallen into disuse due to the long implementation times. The paternoster of pearls and micro-pearls was used, until the twenties of the last century, to make sacral rosaries - from which it takes its name, but it was also used to create elegant jewels with a wholly Venetian flavor. From the art of master glassmakers to the art of "impiararesse" and "impiraperle", Chiara Bellunato creates unique jewels revisited in a modern key. "Al Baldacchino" takes its name from the statue of the "Madonna crowned with Child", protected by a copper canopy by the sculptor Giuseppe Torretti (1716), placed on the walls of the historic building "Ca' Contarini dalla porta di Ferro" which, poetically, he turns his gaze to the shop.
