"The small imperfections encapsulate the energy of the artist and make each of my pieces unique."
The name Sunset Yogurt refers that magical moment when the glowing glass takes on the color of the sunset and the consistency of yogurt. This is Cosima Montavoci’s vision, an eclectic artisan who opened her workshop inside a former butcher shop of which she has maintained the architecture and furnishings to which she has added interesting variations, all to be seen. It was 2019 when she opened her doors, but Cosima began her 'love affair' with glass as early as at sixteen years old. In 2009 she moved to Amsterdam and in 2015 she graduated in Contemporary Art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. In addition to glass, she uses stainless steel, waxed cotton, leather, and resin to create her works. Cosima is very aware of the importance of tradition, but she has been able to look beyond each 'yogurt sunset' learning from each material, experimenting with new techniques and with her eclectic glass creations she has been able to explore the union between craftsmanship and art with strong references to the human body. Her iconic collections include 'Meaty', 'Thingness', and 'Bones and skulls' that recall teeth, breasts, bones, skulls: not only rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, but even hairpins, hairbands, brooches or men's cufflinks. An atelier located in a quieter area of Venice, not always open, almost like an exhibition to visit: a tribute to our body, to its beauty and complexity, full of style and strong emotions.
