"Itaca is, for me, the journey, the starting point and the arrival point from which my artistic experiences emerge and take shape. It is an island in the island of Venice, a place of time and space for my creativity."
Before settling in Venice, Monica Martin lived in England, Austria and Florence. She founded Itaca Art Studio in Venice in 1999; her studio, open to the public, is located on the island of Giudecca, in the magnificent setting of the former Convent of SS. Cosma and Damiano. Here she creates watercolors, paintings and engravings: her themes are very original and fantastic views of Venice, her characteristic abstract gondolas, more traditional views of the city, always painted in her very personal style, and other subjects that come from her most intimate world, up to the abstract. Her ceramic works are also particularly original and distinctive: jewelry and sculptures made with enamel and glass, all unique pieces. The artist also creates works on commission. Monica Martin is part of the international group of artists of Atelier Aperto in Venice and exhibits in various shows in Italy and abroad; her works are present in private and public collections all over the world.
