A Murano Tradition: Signoretto Lampadari

In Murano, where glass-making has been an art for centuries, Signoretto Lampadari stands out as a beacon of craftsmanship and innovation.

Founded in 1990, this family-run company excels in manufacturing exquisite chandeliers that beautifully embody the '700 "Veneziano" and "Rezzonico" styles. Under the guidance of Loris Signoretto, alongside family members Omar, Valeria, and Thomas, each piece is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the highest quality while adapting to modern design trends.

The quality and authenticity of Signoretto Lampadari's work are validated by the ‘Vetro Artistico® Murano’ trademark, which guarantees that these pieces are genuine representations of the Murano glass tradition. Loris Signoretto encapsulates this sentiment perfectly: "The magic and the ancient, unique knowledge of Murano glass are precious values. That's why they are guaranteed and certified."

This prestigious mark, recognized by Italian law, has been pivotal in combating the ongoing issue of speculations and fraudulent activities surrounding Murano glass. Over several decades, individuals and entities have exploited the fragile nature of this ancient industry, threatening its integrity and reputation. The Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark aims to protect and preserve the authenticity of original Murano glass, ensuring that consumers can trust the products bearing this mark. This collective effort has brought stability and safeguarded the thousand-year-old tradition of Murano glassmaking.

Promovetro, appointed by the Veneto Region, plays a significant role in the management and promotion of the trademark for original Murano artistic glass production. Instituted into law in 1994, this trademark has now become a reality. With the responsibility to publicize it globally, Promovetro has emerged as one of the primary guardians of the exquisite Murano glass creations. Through its efforts, Promovetro helps preserve the integrity and reputation of Murano glass in the international market.

At Signoretto Lampadari, the philosophy centers around personalization. Each chandelier is not only a material embodiment of tradition, culture and mastery but also a reflection of the customer’s unique vision. Whether it’s a modification of a classic style or a completely bespoke design, these artisans craft remarkable pieces that fulfill the individual needs and desires of their clients.

The creations feature a marriage of both traditional and modern techniques. For example, in 2019 Signoretto Lampadari promoted the project GLASSOUND in collaboration with the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice Decoration course. It explored the relationship between glass and sound, during which seminars and workshops on the theme were organized. The young artists reinterpreted the vibrations of the furnace and the interactions between materials and forms to create new works. The project included vases whose shapes were inspired by the sound of the blowing technique, as well as musical compositions created with the sounds captured in the furnace. The transdisciplinary approach brought together various skill sets centered around glass, the central and symbolic element of Murano. GLASSOUND is connected to previous research initiatives on artistic glass from the Atelier di Decorazione B of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, such as the workshop "What is the Light For?" conducted in the 2016/2017.
