The Burano lace tradition has been present in the Maravacchio family for four generations. It began, in fact, with great-great-grandmother Elisa, followed by her daughter, great-grandmother Adelina. Then came grandmother Sandra's turn, who in turn is teaching her granddaughter Ludovica Zane, the youngest lace maker in Burano. Initially the girls learned this ancient art in the Burano Lace School, now turned into a museum, while now it is passed down in the family.

Burano lace is one of the most time-consuming craft techniques to make: in fact, only a needle and cotton thread are used. With this ancient technique it is possible to make anything on commission: from household linens (tablecloths, sheets, towels) to underwear, not to mention wedding and ceremony dresses, accessories and any other desire.

It is also possible to attend customized courses, taught by master lacemaker Sandra, at the craft workshop in Burano.
