The Burano lace tradition has been present in our Maravacchio family for four generations. It began with great-great-grandmother Elisa, followed by her daughter, great-grandmother Adelina. Then came grandmother Sandra's turn, who in turn is teaching her granddaughters.
Initially, the girls learnt this ancient art at the Burano Lace School, now converted into a museum, while now it is handed down in the family.
Burano lace is one of the most time-consuming craft techniques to make: only needle and cotton thread are used. With this ancient technique it is possible to make anything on commission: from household linen (tablecloths, sheets, towels) to underwear, not forgetting wedding and ceremony dresses, accessories and anything else you desire.
You can also attend personalised courses, held by master lacemaker Sandra, in our craft workshop in Burano.
Making craftsmanship implies creating objects that are different from each other, unique and unrepeatable. As a result, all the proposals of Venice Original could vary slightly in color and shape, depending on the availability of raw materials, inspiration and creativity of the moment.
If you do not find online what you want or would like something slightly different, contact us specifying your needs, your desires and tastes. Venice Original will offer you the most suitable craftsman to achieve what you care about, enhancing the beauty and competence of the best Venetian historical-artistic workmanship.
